Bude Canal Walkway – Update on Restoration Works (w/c 3 June)
Cormac are continuing restoration works along the sloping revetment (supporting wall that helps protect the canal bank from erosion) next to the tramway walkway at Bude Canal.
The old blockwork structure is being carefully dismantled and rebuilt, this time with a solid concrete foundation and added drainage — something the original structure did not have. As much of the original stone is being reused as possible.
Recent wet weather and high tides have made progress on the lower part of the revetment more difficult, but work has continued in other areas of the site.
Next week the team will focus on rebuilding the short wall near the old railway siding while they wait for new tramway rail sections to arrive.
A secure work compound remains in place in the Wharf car park, with a nearby area being used to store materials.
These improvements are designed to strengthen the canal embankment and protect it from future storm and tidal damage. They will also help make the walkway more accessible for wheelchair users, prams, and those with limited mobility.
