Compass Point Project Update – Week 6

We are happy to report that the site has been bustling with activity thanks to the good weather, and everything is going according to schedule.

Site Information

Great progress has been made at the new site, with the ground works for the new site nearing completion by the end of the week. We have placed reinforcing steel in the newly dug base and concrete has been poured into it. It will take a couple of weeks for the concrete to fully set and provide a strong foundation.

The work to dismantle the roof is ongoing. During this process we have been surprised to discover that the dome consisted of much thicker concrete and rubble than we had anticipated. While this discovery has slowed the process slightly, we are still on course to complete the removal of the dome by the end of this week.

Once the dome has been completely removed by the end of the week, we will move on to the next stage, which involves carefully taking apart the stones one by one, in a meticulous, methodical order. You will be able to see these stones piled up and sequentially marked, to ensure they are put back in the right sequence during their reconstruction at the new site.

Community Activity

We are excited to share that we recently visited both Stratton Primary and Bude Primary Academy to give presentations about the Compass Point Project. As a special gift, we have provided each school with pieces of freshly cut grass from the new tower location. The students can take care of the grass and observe what grows, allowing them to connect with the project and learn about the environment.
