We’re excited that the build stage has been reached for the Compass Point Project! The kick-off week is underway, and there’s already a flurry of activity on site.
Site Information
The main focus this week is on establishing the site compound, which will serve as the central hub for construction activities. A portacabin and container have already been delivered to the compound, providing essential resources for the workers.
To ensure that the project is environmentally responsible, an ecologist is revisiting the site to perform checks in line with SSSI standards and SAC, protecting the local wildlife and plants. Additionally, local quarries are being visited to collect the types of stone that will be used in the construction process.
This week will also see the current location of the tower being fenced off to ensure safety during the construction process. At the same time, the new location for the tower is also being fenced off to prepare for its relocation. This is a crucial step in the project’s progress, as it will pave the way for the tower’s eventual move to its new home. We’ve included a map image to help illustrate the current and new locations for the tower.
News
In other news, we’re thrilled to announce that the Compass Point Project has secured an additional grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. This funding will help support the project’s mission to revitalise and celebrate Bude’s rich cultural and historical heritage.
The Compass Point Project team is planning a special Cross Removal Ceremony from the tower, and one lucky person will have the chance to be a part of it! As a special thank you to those who generously contributed to the crowd fund, we’ll be selecting one person at random to take part in this unforgettable event. Imagine being a part of this historic moment and witnessing the tower’s transformation first-hand! So, if you’ve donated to the crowd fund, you’re automatically entered to win – good luck!
Community Activities
The project team is excited to be preparing to launch the first activity associated with the project: an Art Competition that’s open to all ages across the community and educational facilities. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of a once-in-a-lifetime project that will transform the area and make a lasting impact. We hope to be launching this competition in the next couple of weeks, so keep your eyes peeled!
