CAN YOU HELP?
With the blue skies of August above, it seems hard to fathom the extent of the crisis ahead.
Today, however, Ofgem announced the next energy price cap, effective from 1 October until the end of the year, with an 80% increase to about the £3,500 mark.
In light of the increasing cost of living crisis and the great numbers facing fuel poverty this winter, Bude-Stratton Town Council called an extraordinary Full Council meeting last week to explore what measures could be taken to help combat this emergency. These measures included, amongst others:
? the provision of a free, warm space, in the Library and the Parkhouse Centre
? co-ordinating and promoting community-wide efforts and provisions both with a maildrop and also online
? working with Holsworthy Community Transport to provide transport for local activities
? to tie in with the money advice programme
There will be much more detail to come on what support BSTC can offer as the proposals take shape.
In the meantime, if you are a community group, an individual or local business contributing in some way that we may not know about, please do get in touch with us.
We have had some very generous offers of support from local businesses already, and we welcome help on this project in any which way. Thank you. Meur ras.
