Bude-Stratton Town Council is working with the Bude Coastal Community Team (BCCT) to provide a separate cycle path for Summerleaze Downs. The existing path running alongside the Downs following the cliff edge does not provide sufficient space for pedestrians and cyclists to use the same route safely and comfortably.
The proposal is for a new specific cycle route; a 3 meter wide path, made from cellular pavers (a recycled plastic grasscrete), to run roughly parallel with, but separate from the existing path from Crooklets to Summerleaze over the Downs.
The demand for a cycle path following this route has previously been brought to the attention of the Town Council by local cycling group Department 26. This will join up with a wider programme of works being undertaken by Cornwall Council on their land that together will link Crooklets to the Bude Canal trail.
The next stage of the project is to apply for planning permission that will provide further details of the scheme and allow the public to comment.
BCCT continue to work on funding bids in order to deliver the final scheme.
