Discover the New Bude Heritage Trail at the Bude Heritage Festival!

Step into Bude’s Vibrant Past with the Launch of the Bude Heritage Trail

Bude-Stratton Town Council is excited to announce the launch of the new Bude Heritage Trail, set to debut at this year’s Bude Heritage Festival on 21st July. This eagerly anticipated addition invites visitors to embark on a journey through Bude’s rich history. On the day of the festival, visitors can come to our stall on The Castle Lawns to collect their exclusive first-look trail maps!

Funded by the National Lottery Heritage Lottery Fund, the Bude Heritage Trail is a cornerstone of the Compass Point Project. This immersive trail promises to captivate explorers with its exploration of eight significant historical sites, each a testament to Bude’s cultural and natural heritage.

Embark on an Unforgettable Journey

Begin your adventure at the serene St. Michael’s and All Angels Church, where the historic charm sets the stage for the trail’s narrative. Journey onwards to the relocated Storm Tower, safeguarded inland to preserve its iconic stature against coastal elements.

Step back in time at Efford Cottage, originally built by Sir Thomas Acland, offering a glimpse into a bygone era near the Canal and Lock Gates, where Bude’s engineering marvels unfold. Explore The Castle, now a dynamic Heritage Centre brimming with tales of Bude’s past, and cross Nanny Moore’s Bridge, where echoes of history linger with each step.

Capture Bude’s Rich Heritage

Marvel at panoramic vistas from the new viewfinder on Summerleaze Downs, capturing Bude’s natural beauty in vivid detail, before ending your journey at the beloved Crooklets beach area, steeped in both history and coastal charm.

Designed for all ages, the Bude Heritage Trail offers a delightful one-hour expedition that blends education with adventure, perfect for families, history enthusiasts, and nature lovers alike.
