Flags flying for LGBT+ History Month

You’ll have noticed that a splash of colour has returned to BSTC flagpoles for February to mark LGBT+ History Month ?️‍?
LGBT+ History Month was founded by Schools OUT and first celebrated in 2005. Every year, Schools OUT sets a different theme for LGBT+ History Month and provides free resources for education settings, businesses, services and organisations to help them celebrate.
The 2023 theme is #BehindTheLens, celebrating LGBT+ peoples’ contribution to cinema and film from behind the scenes – directors, cinematographers, screen writers, costume designers and so on.
You can find out more about it here
As per the new BSTC Flag Flying Protocol, Bude Pride submitted a request to the Council to mark LGBT+ History Month by flying the Gilbert Baker (Rainbow) flag on BSTC flagpoles for February, which was approved.
The flag is currently flying on Shalder Hill and outside the Parkhouse Centre. Unfortunately, the halyard rope on the Elizabeth Mast on Summerleaze Downs is still broken, but it will be repaired as soon as the Facilities Team feels it’s safe to do so.
