Full Council Round-Up
The Full Council meeting held on 6 October at the Parkhouse Centre saw a number of local issues raised, including discussion surrounding the proposed Stagecoach changes to the 6/6A bus route from Bude to Exeter (see separate article HERE).
Mayor’s Report
Mayor, Cllr Amanda Tame spoke regarding the passing of Her Majesty the Queen and the Proclamation Ceremony which was held at the Bude Light on Sunday, 11 September, and which was very well attended. She also reported that she had attended the World Surf Kayak Championships opening ceremony held in Bude at the end of September, and she thanked the former Deputy Mayor, Simon Bellamy, for his hard work during his time as Councillor.
Election of Deputy Mayor
Cllr Jackie Diffey was unanimously elected as Deputy Mayor (see separate article HERE)
Potential re-development of An Mor Hotel
Cllrs expressed their concerns regarding the potential redevelopment of part of the An Mor site to provide a care home. Following discussion, BSTC has passed on its concerns to the developer, which included the following:
- Concerns for the long term future of the site
- Concerns for the local affordable care need being matched with appropriate provision
- Concerns that the site is inappropriate for a development of this scale
- Concerns that the public consultation should be more extensive
- Concerns regarding the already fragile infrastructure of the town
- Concerns regarding alteration to the skyline.
The developer has been invited in to discuss this potential development with the Council.
Money and debt advice report
The Money and Debt Forum, held at the Parkhouse Centre at the end of September, was well received, and brought together many community groups to share information. It was announced that the Citizens Advice Bureau will be returning to Bude with funding of £10k from the Blanchminster Trust. Cllr Dorey also provided an update on work to set up Open House sessions this winter in Bude and Stratton, and there will be more information on this project over the coming weeks. Additionally, Cllr Dorey is producing an information brochure which will be delivered to every house in Bude to disseminate information about where the community can go locally this winter to keep active and stay warm.
