Here’s the summary of the matters discussed at the Full Council Meeting on 9th November 2023.
Planning Application for Crematorium at Poundstock
The meeting extensively addressed the planning application for the Poundstock crematorium and its Judicial Review. Councillor O’Sullivan provided insights into key planning considerations, emphasising viability, carbon footprint, and scale as reasons for council to support the motion to oppose the planning application, based on concerns highlighted by the Judicial Review. Following thorough discussions among members and the public, the consensus emerged to defer the decision until Cornwall Council provides substantial new information.
Blue Light Memorial Garden
It was proposed that a ‘blue light memorial garden’ be included in plans for an accessible memorial garden on land at the rear of the Parkhouse Centre – previously agreed by BSTC for use as a Memorial Garden for veterans. A representative from the ambulance service and Councillor La Broy spoke about the initiative. The council agreed that Uniformed Services should be included, with the budget to be identified at a later date.
Food/Activities Programme
LJD Coaching provided feedback from users of the Summer 2023 programme, showcasing its success as the second-highest provider in Cornwall. The Mayor and the council members expressed their gratitude to LJD Coaching for their contribution.
In terms of future activities, the council approved funding for up to 200 places with a budget of up to £3,000 for the Christmas activity programme. Additionally, a procurement exercise for the Summer 2024 programme is set to take place in January 2024.
Mayor’s Report
The Mayor’s report highlighted his attendance at the 70th anniversary gala of the Bude Surf Life Saving Club and upcoming participation in Armistice and Remembrance Day events, including a service in the Triangle and wreath laying at Stratton War Memorial.
