Summary of Full Council Meeting – 6 February 2025

Bude-Stratton Town Council held its Full Council meeting on 6 February 2025, where important updates and discussions took place on various local initiatives. Below is a summary of the meeting’s highlights.

Mayor’s Report

In the absence of the Mayor, no report was presented.

Cornwall Councillor’s Report

Cllr La Broy reported that he had attended a Cornwall Council meeting where a motion to reject Cornwall Council’s proposal to become a combined authority was discussed. He was pleased to inform members that the motion passed. He updated members on the ongoing road works in the Bude-Stratton area and discussed the upcoming planning appeal for the proposed retirement home at An Mor, Bude. Cllr La Broy answered questions from the public.

Updates from Lead Councillors

Cllr Dawe, along with Cllrs La Broy and Aulsberry-Vockins, attended a meeting with the Skate Park User Group. They discussed the current planning application and received advice from a Biodiversity Net Gain specialist, which will help them progress the application. Cllr Aulsberry-Vockins, together with Cllr Dawe, attended a Youth Forum meeting, where the first action plan involved gathering evidence-based reports on local youth groups, services, and buildings. The idea of forming a Youth Council was also discussed. Cllr Herbert-Coulson provided an update regarding Veterans’ social housing and local connection tests. All updates were noted.

Minutes & Finance Reports

The minutes from the previous meeting held on 16 January 2025 were approved and signed by the Chair. Committee minutes from the Planning Committee (8th & 22nd January 2025) and Corporate & Democratic Services Committee (23rd January 2025) were noted.

Government Consultation on Standards & Conduct

The Council discussed the Government consultation on ‘Strengthening the Standards and Conduct Framework for Local Authorities in England’. It was agreed to delegate authority to a working group, comprising Cllrs Hanna, Herbert-Coulson, Dearing, Aulsberry-Vockins, and O’Sullivan, to complete the consultation response.

Correspondence from the Clerk

The Council discussed the application for the modification of the Definitive Map and Statement of Rights of Way, related to the claimed addition of a restricted byway (WCA 485 and 486). The Clerk will return the application to Cornwall Council.

Withdrawal from Bude Climate Partnership

The Deputy Town Clerk updated the Council on the withdrawal process from BCP. After a lengthy discussion, the Council endorsed the decision made at the Extraordinary Full Council meeting on 16 January 2025 and delegated authority to the Town Clerk to proceed with completing the necessary paperwork to finalise the withdrawal.

The date of the next Full Council meeting was confirmed as Wednesday 5th March 2025.
