Summary of Full Council Meeting 9 January 2025

Bude-Stratton Town Council held its Full Council meeting on 9 January 2025, where important updates and discussions took place on various local initiatives. Below is a summary of the meeting’s highlights.

Mayor’s Report

The Mayor reported no outside duties since the last meeting but shared correspondence from the French Ambassador regarding an international convention in Nice focused on protected coastal towns and cities.

Cornwall Councillor’s Report

Cornwall Councillor La Broy had no formal meetings to report but provided updates on the Government’s planning review, Cornwall’s housing supply and Central Government plans for Mayor-led strategic authorities.

Updates from Lead Councillors

Cllr Corrigan Turner encouraged Councillors to complete and also share a new NHS survey about local healthcare services as part of a ten-year plan. She reminded everyone that a Health and Welfare day is being held in February at the Parkhouse Centre, which will include public health testing and survey workshops.

Cllr Herbert-Coulson reported plans to meet with the local Royal British Legion to collaborate on events celebrating the 80th anniversary of VE Day.

Minutes & Finance Reports

The minutes of the Full Council meeting on 12 December 2024 and the Planning Committee meeting on 4 December 2024 were approved. The Schedule of Payments made between 13 December 2024 and 9 January 2025 was noted, and payments scheduled for 10 January 2025 were approved.

Auditors Report

Members discussed the previously circulated Internal Auditor’s report. The Town Clerk discussed the Investment strategy and informed members that the Responsible Finance Officer had an update of recommendations that had been progressed.

Grant Applications – second round of 2024/25

After thorough discussion, grants were awarded as follows:

  • Bude Lit Fest 2025: £4,000
  • Bude Cancer Support: £500
  • The 2minute Foundation: £350
  • Bude Choral Society: £350
  • Bude Inner Wheel: £250
  • Exercise 4 Mobility: £950
  • Bude Carnival Committee: £750
  • Bude Primary Academy: £750 (£250 and £500 for two projects)
  • Bude Wave Project: £600
  • Bude-Stratton Community Project: £1,500

Applications from Bude-Stratton Twinning Association and ATD Media were not awarded grants.

Dog Wash Express

The Council approved the use of the area outside the public conveniences at the TIC building by Dog Wash Express.

Date of Next Meeting

An Extraordinary meeting of the Council will take place on 16 January 2025.
