Water harvesting

An official drought was declared in many parts of the country on Friday. Cornwall and Devon are included in the areas now with drought status, and we can soon expect to see the introduction of certain measures to reduce water consumption, including a likely hosepipe ban.

If you see our Facilities Team continuing to water the flowerbeds and planters in Bude and Stratton, please rest assured that the water is brought down in a bowser from the works unit, where there is a 4,000 litre rain harvesting system.

Additionally, most of the planters you see around the parish are self-watering, which work by drawing water from an internal reservoir, releasing water throughout the day slowly, with no wastage.

This is how it’s possible to have so much colour still in our town, despite the distinct lack of rain this year. Thank you, Team.
