Bude-Stratton Town Council Welcomes New Mayor and Deputy Mayor
Bude-Stratton Town Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Cllr Mike Dawe as the new Mayor and Cllr Philippa Purchase as the new Deputy Mayor for the municipal year 2023/2024. The announcement follows a unanimous vote by fellow Councillors at the Annual Council Meeting held on Thursday 4th May 2023.
Cllr Dawe brings a wealth of experience and a passion for community service to his new role. In his first speech as Mayor, he expressed his gratitude to the previous Mayor, Amanda Tame, for her exemplary service to the community. He also outlined his goals for the coming year, including driving forward ongoing projects like the Storm Tower, Skatepark and Stratton Stores to completion.
“I’m honoured to have been given this opportunity to serve as Mayor of Bude-Stratton,” said Cllr Dawe. “I believe that the key to success is open communication and collaboration. I look forward to working closely with my fellow Councillors, staff, and residents to ensure that our voices are heard in a meaningful and respectful way.”
The Council is also pleased to announce that Cllr Philippa Purchase has been appointed as the Deputy Mayor. Cllr Purchase will continue to serve as Joint Lead Councillor for Environment & Biodiversity and Joint Lead Councillor for Climate Change. Her experience in these areas will be invaluable in helping the Council to achieve its environmental goals.
At the Annual Council Meeting, the new Mayor also signed the Armed Forces Covenant. The signing of the covenant is a significant gesture of respect and gratitude towards the sacrifices made by our Armed Forces, and the Council is proud to demonstrate its ongoing commitment to supporting this community.
Cllr Dawe and Cllr Purchase are both looking forward to working in their new appointments in the coming year.
